Common questions

Which Arabic does Fasih teach? Classical Arabic — the Fus-ha register of the classical texts. It is deliberately not Modern Standard Arabic for news and business, and not a spoken dialect. Every entry is written with full tashkeel, including iʿrāb endings.

Where is my data? Entirely on your iPhone. Fasih has no account and makes no network requests, so nothing is uploaded anywhere. Use Settings → Export to back it up as JSON.

Does it work offline? Completely. The dictionary and the scheduler both run on your device — turn on airplane mode and nothing changes.

How does the scheduling work? Reviews are timed by FSRS, an open-source spaced-repetition scheduler, so each word comes back right before you'd forget it. The four answer buttons — Again, Hard, Good, Easy — show the interval each one would set, so you can see the schedule you're choosing.

I missed a week — is my streak gone, and am I buried in reviews? No to both. Up to two missed days a month are auto-frozen, and catch-up mode reflows what's overdue so you get the most valuable cards first instead of a wall of several hundred. Just open the app and continue.

When does a word count as mastered? Only after several successful recalls spaced across separate days, with the scheduler's own stability estimate high enough. That's why the badges track words mastered rather than minutes spent.

How many new words a day will I get? As many as you set in Settings. The daily session is deliberately bounded — a few minutes a day beats a marathon, and the schedule assumes you'll come back tomorrow.

What is Practice for? Extra retrieval whenever you feel like it — all the words you've started, the ones you've found hard, or any single category. Practice never changes your review schedule; it's bonus reps.

Can I add my own words? Yes — Library → Import brings in a word list from an Excel or CSV sheet, and it becomes a new category with the same scheduling, practice and badges. Download the template inside the app for the exact columns. If your Arabic looks garbled after an import, re-save the sheet as UTF-8 CSV or use the .xlsx template.

The Arabic looks wrong or the vowel marks are cut off. Tell us the word and category at info@nrdyn.com — the dataset is hand-authored and grammar-audited, and we fix reported entries in the next update.

How do I start over? Settings → Reset all data clears your progress. Deleting the app does the same thing, since nothing is stored anywhere else.
